Doing a 10k for the First Time

Image
After doing 5k every weekend at the Parkrun, you start getting bored. You try to get a personal best. You don’t . Try again next week. Then you decide to do a 10K to bring back the excitement.   That is basically why I decided to do my first 10K.   Back in the end of 2022 was tough time for my running. I had a sore hip; bad weather and I got a job. Therefore, my training wasn’t very good . To deal with the sore hip I decided to do side planks which helped, but I knew I needed a new challenge for the new year as the parkruns were starting to get boring. Then my mum sent me a picture of the Portadown that was taking place in March, and I immediately k new that I was going to do it .    To prepare for the 10K I decided to create a trai ni ng plan . So, I watched a couple of YouTube videos and created my training plan. O n Mo nday I would do my recovery run. On Tuesday I would do 10* 400m . On Wednesday I would do a long run . On Thursday I woul...

My First Parkrun

On the 26 th of February 2022, I did my first parkrun at citypark par krun in Craigavon. Since then, I have done over 100 parkruns , got under sub-20 and have volunteered a couple of times. So, over the next couple of months I would do my run in the boxing club, then come home and annoy my mum about how fast I was going .   Then one day my mum told me about this runn ing event called parkrun . At first, I was a bit hesitant (mainly because I couldn’t be bothered with registering ) but I decided to do it. I registered for parkrun and got my barcodes.    Then , I decided to train for it. On Monday I did two 800ms and 1mile. On Tuesday I did a 1.2km and a 400m . On Wednesday I did 2km. On Friday, I did 4.5km. Looking back I can’t remember the logic ...

Top 5 Hardest Parkruns in Northern Ireland

Image
Over the last two years, I have done several parkruns . After doing a new parkrun I like to compare them . For example, out of all parkruns I have done in Belfast I would say Falls would be the hardest . However, let’s go bigger than Belfast and find what is the hardest parkrun in Northern Ireland. Now, I haven’t done all the parkruns in Northern Ireland , so I decided to ask ChatGPT what the 5 hardest parkruns are in Northern Ireland . I hope this can be used to decide what parkrun to do when looking for a challenge , but also create a discussion, so please use the comment section if you agree or disagree with the results. Anyways, these are the results.     1 . C astlewellan parkrun   This one will really test your legs. The course winds through stunning Castlewellan Forest Park, but don't let the beauty distract you— there's a long, steep hill that feels like it never ends! You’ll be tackling gravel paths, woodland trails, and rolling terrain, but tha...
